Day One July Potsdam

Day one Potsdam july 2007

We have worked on editing, selecting, distilling from the huge amount of notes and video we had. Now everything is much much clearer, I think. We have made a list of scenes to rework on and change in relation to the new stronger concept of the piece. Even though we have to also think of making clear choices about what happens in this W. Room and how it happens, we have decided to concentrate on how to develop the moments we have selected and how to connect those moments with the coming in of the audience.
We want to find different ways to get the audience involved in what it s actually happening in the scene, and ways of making them activate the actions in the scenes.
So, I think tomorrow we will start with this proposition, if you have any idea please tell us.
The list of small moments/scene we have selected is this

{taking away the trios for now}

G and D on chair manipulation
G under chair
G naked
G dream

D sunset
D happiest woman
D blind folded
D dragging table plus table dance
D floor dance

Cat state plus Cat phrase
Duet
D pushed on the floor
Whispering

Hi guys - not sure if this is the 'correct' way to feedback to you guys, but here goes...

I think the distilling you have done is great and you seem very clear about what needs to be done. I have taken note of the scenes and will think tonight about some tasks and contexts that might help. But if you have moved on since then and they are not useful please ignore.

Also i wanted to note some other sources we have talked about:
1984
The lives of others
Strange days

Also you mentioned that a story seemed to be formulating: be good to have some more detail on this...

Lastly, are you still planning to do the 'experiment' [12 hour performance aaround the theme of encounters to be done in a studio with a live feed to a communal space in the building]. If so let me know when, so i can maybe prepare some tasks...

Friday 27th...
Morning guys... A little morning task for you:
[i'll put stars *** where you should do that part of the task before you read the next bit - and i'll know if you've skipped ahead - big brother is watching]

Write a brief description of 2 memorable encounters. Can be insignificant but must be significant to you. note down any details i.e.time of day, temp, weather, lighting, sound, etc.

*****

Identify an object you remember from each encounter.

*****

Choose one encounter for this task.
You have 45 min to make a solo about something that did not occur during that encounter. i.e. something you wish you had said or done, or a random thoughht that came to you, or a song or a film that it reminded you of.
[Dona this is like those solo's we made with ben, where you are just chucking stuff out - not censoring]

*****

Show each other your solo without reading out your text.
What did you see in the solo? Could you identify a mood, intention, sensation or story?

*****

Read each-other your stories.

*****

Play out the encounter. Have the other person enter with the object and play out the scene inserting your solo or fragments of it at some point during the scene. Think of the dance as the asides, the bubble thoughts.

*****

If this is fuitful repeat with your second encounter. If not you have two options [although you can ignore the whole thing at any point]:
- assign yourself and the other person in your encounter to two body parts. make a solo which plays out this encounter between the body parts.
- Give each-other your descriptions of the second encounter and make the 'aside' solo's for each-others stories. play out as in version 1.

You may have moved on leaps and bounds in the story since your last entry on this blog, so if this task is not useful bin it. just to let you know a bit where my head is at:
1984; the idea of re-writing the past got me thinking maybe this is about wanting to re-dress the past, return to missed oppotunities. What if you could go back and 'correct' your past? What if those moments that haunt you and you play over and over in your head you could go back and alter?

In the waiting room there are objects on a table. An audience member must chosse an object and then enter the room with it. This dictates which scene is played. they become the other person in the encounter.

Got to dash to work. Bug hug Raqs X X X
